Accident on ropeway in Deoghar: 48 lives in danger, army helicopters engaged in rescue

Ranchi. Army helicopters have been deployed since Monday morning to rescue the people trapped after the ropeway accident on Trikoot mountain of Deoghar. At present 48 people are trapped in different trolleys at an altitude of about 2000 feet. One woman has died while more than a dozen people have been injured in the incident that took place on Sunday evening. Hundreds of people gathered near the spot.

The NDRF team started the rescue operation on Sunday night and rescued around two dozen people. The operation had to be called off due to nightfall. Since Monday morning, army helicopters are busy in evacuating the people trapped in the trolleys. Biscuit and water packets have been delivered to these people through an empty trolley.

Local MP Nishikant Dubey, Deputy Commissioner of the district Manjunath Bhajantri and many high officials are present on the spot. The accident happened at around 6 pm on Sunday evening due to a break in a ropeway wire at Trikoot mountain in Deoghar. The woman who died due to this accident has been identified as Sumati Devi, a 40-year-old resident of Sura village. Among the injured are Bhupendra Verma and his wife Deepa Verma, resident of Kokrajhar in Assam, Rupa Kumari, Soni Devi, resident of Karmatand in Jamtara district, Govind Bhagat, resident of Karmatand in Giridih, Khushboo Rani, Sudha Rani, resident of Lahariasarai under Darbhanga, Bihar and a child. The condition of a woman is said to be critical, with an unidentified child among the injured.
